Jonhyeonsa
Jonhyeonsa is a hanging wooden plaque of a shrine in the Bancheonseowon Confucian Academy that was built in 1676 to hold sacrificial rites for Kim Jung-cheong (1567-1629, pen name Gujeon). The academy was located in Bongseong-ri, Bongseong-myeon, Bonghwa-gun, North Gyeongsang Province. The plaque was donated by Bonghwa Gujeon Head House of Andong Kim Clan, and it measures 112 cm in width and 50 cm in height. Jonhyeon (尊賢) means to respect a wise man. In this case the wise man is Kim Jung-cheong.
The calligraphy is written in the seal script style of an unknown author. It is written carefully with uniform strokes made with a constant flow, creating an extremely neat atmosphere. The upper part of the character jon (尊) is raised smoothly, and the hand shape of the supporting lower part is written somewhat elaborately to give off a sense of utmost politeness. As if trying to show what a virtuous person’s character is like, a somewhat tense-looking hyeon (賢) follows. With the combination of si (示) that stands upright and sa (司) that is shaped like a kneeling person, the character sa (祠) is finished off with polite energy.
