Bibliographical of Bansongjeong
Bansongjeong (Stone Pine Pavilion)Bansongjeong is the hanging wooden plaque of the namesake pavilion, which was built by Kim Siha (1707-1801, pen name Kyeong-wa) in Nulgok-ri, Jipum-myeon, Yeongdeok-gun. The name ‘Bansong’ refers to a species of pine that grows to have a flat stone-like appearance. Presumably the pavilion was situated around stone pine woods and was named as such. The calligraphy letters are written in the semi-cursive style by Yi Yuk-won. The upper half of ‘盤’ is rendered wide with thick strokes and the formation is abbreviated by dashing brushwork. On the other hand, the lower half is narrower and more tightly organized. This contrast makes the letter have an appearance of a beautiful stone pine itself. As the brushwork becomes more relaxed in ‘松’ and ‘亭’, fleshy strokes along with generous margins offer a chance of quiet contemplation.
