Dojonsa is the hanging wooden plaque of the shrine in Ogye Seowon Academy in Cheonbon-ri, Pyeong-eun-myeon, Yeongju. The term ‘Dojon’ originated from the passage in “Tian Zi-fang” of the Zhuangzi, in which Zi-lu said, “You have wished, Sir, to see this Wen-bo Xue-zi [溫伯雪子] for a long time; what is the reason that when you have seen him, you have not spoken a word?” and Zhongni [孔子] replied, “As soon as my eyes lighted on that man, the Way (Do) in him was apparent (Jon). The situation did not admit of a word being spoken. [若夫人者, 目擊而道存矣, 亦不可以容聲矣.]” The calligraphy letters are written by Oh Gyeonggi (1623-1697, pen name Igye) in the square style. The script is composed of three distinct characters. ‘道’ arouses a sense of liveliness, which is preserved by smaller but sturdy ‘存’ and calmly settled by weighty ‘祠’.
